Meet Puglians and taste Salento’s cuisine and wine
3 nights in a charming hotel in a historical building in Manduria. Explore one of Southern Italy’s most authentic regions and meet Salento’s people. Our full day tours start at 9.30 h every morning and have a duration of max. 8 hours.
An English Speaking Driver is not a guide. He will drive you during your journey, helping you to enjoy the experience of seeing the sights close-up. He will give you general information and take care of the practical details of your day itinerary by contacting your local guide, restaurant and escorting you safely to your hotel or cruise-ship after a day trip.
A local Guide is the acknowledged expert of the area you are visiting. He has an in depth knowledge of the subject and can illustrate archaeological areas, museums and other places of interest in your language and with great clarity. We strongly advise you to hire a local guide for a thematic tour.
After your arrival at the airport of Brindisi a private transfer will take you to your hotel. You will have some free time to have lunch. In the afternoon you will visit Oria with your English speaking tour guide. Oria’s picturesque old town, its magnificent cathedral and crypta. One of the bars was opened in 1938 and you will meet its owner. He will share his memories with you, show you some mementos and chat with you about Oria’s history, art, culture and traditions. Taste some regional specialties such as lemon ice-cream, the sweet “la scarpetta” or have some almond milk. In the evening you will have dinner and you will spend the night at the charming hotel in the city center of Manduria.
After breakfast you will meet Salvatore, who will show you his family’s vineyards. They have been producing Primitivo di Mandura wine since 1920. While you taste Salvatore’s wine, you will taste some dried almonds prepared by his mother, while he will share some interesting facts about Salento’s traditions with you. After lunch in a typical Puglian restaurant you will visit the local wine museum, the so-called Museo della Civiltà del Vino Primitivo di Manduria.
After the guided tour, you will taste some Puglian wine and food. In the evening a private transfer will take you back to your hotel, where you will have dinner in the hotel’s restaurant. You will spend the night in the same hotel in the city center of Manduria.
After breakfast you will taste different Puglian cheeses at a masseria, then you will visit a subterranean oil mill, taste some extra vergin olive oil and some other delicious fresh products. In the evening you will have dinner and spend the night in the hotel in the city center in Manduria.
After breakfast you will be taken to the airport, if your flight leaves early in the day. Should you still have some time available you could either relax or book a half day excursion to Taranto. Lecce, to the Salines “dei Monaci” or to Ceglie Messapica, to Francavilla Fontana or to Grottaglie. Afterwards a private transfer will take you to the airport.
