Hotel in historical houses Don Ferrante, Monopoli

From the Gargano to the Salento, across the coast of Trulli, the Murge and the land of Bari, holidays in Apulia, are colourful emotions in every moment of the year.

Blue sea, green nature, red ground and sun, gold sunset.  From the Gargano to the Salento, across the coast of Trulli, the Murge and the land of Bari, holidays in Apulia, are colourful emotions in every moment of the year. Beaches, castles, cathedrals and cave churches, typical products, natural parks, country events… Your journey starts here.

Monopoli (monos and polis in Greek) means “only city” and surely, to this day, remains faithful to its name.

In fact, the city keeps intact the charm that comes to its history and traditions. It has about 50,000 inhabitants, lies about 40 km southeast from Bari and borders on the cities of Polignano a Mare, Conversano, Castellana Grotte, Alberobbello and Fasano. Monopoli arises along 15km of flat and jagged coast, with many coves with suggestive names and long sandy beaches which represent a safe landfall for vacationers and tourists.

The medieval centre, characterized by churches and monasteries, today rises again thanks to important restorations, as the complex of fortifications (walls and castle), the Romanesque church of Santa Maria Amalfitana, the magnificent Baroque cathedral.

The rural country, constituted by 99 districts, covers an area of more than 150kmq of great naturalistic and cultural interest. In fact there are many fortified “masserie” (centres of agricultural activities) including some dating back to Roman times, rural churches, trulli, wonderful neoclassical villas and farmhouses.

Among the most important tourist attractions of Monopoli there is the Feast of the Madonna della Madia (16th December – 15th August), that each year suggests again to the resident devotees and the many tourists the landfall of the icon of the Madonna aboard a raft.
