yengar Yoga is a method founded by B.K.S. Iyengar, an Indian master who in over 70 years of practice has refined and perfected Iyengar Yoga so much that it became one of the most widespread yoga techniques in the world. This method is based on an in-depth study of ASANA (positions that the body assumes in the practice of Yoga) and Pranayama (breath control).
This Yoga method is characterized by the use of “supports” invented by Iyengar to ensure that everyone can benefit from the profound effects of the positions and can practice by aligning their body, mind and soul. The alignment, the symmetry, the precision during the execution, the sequence and the duration of the positions are the defining characteristics of this method. It acts on the musculoskeletal, organic, emotional and mental level. The physical body benefits from the positions themselves, while the concentration and precision required in practice leads to an internalization of the mind, giving peace and tranquility while predisposing it to meditation. The teachers, who hold certificates proving to be trained to teach following the Iyengar ® method have to participate in a three-year training course in which they are also taught philosophy and anatomy and at the end they have to pass an exam to obtain the certificate that will enable them to teach. But the path continues towards a continuous deepening and the possible achievement of higher levels certified by national associations that will be headed directly by the Iyengar family and the institute in Pune (India).
